How are Vietnamese traditions still being practiced? What role do these traditions hold in our lives?
Our goal was to show that even in today’s modern society, tradition can still connect and expand us.
It holds a big role in shaping the minds and bodies of the future Vietnamese descendants. It has undergone many changes throughout the years which is the reason why it is able to be of relevance to this day.
Vietnamese culture is one of the oldest ones still being practiced today. It is a multiethnic country with over fifty distinct groups. Each of them has its own language, lifestyle, and cultural heritage. Family is very strong in Vietnam. Family and clan are valued over individualism. Clan is the most important social unit in the country and each clan features a patriarch heading the clan and a clan altar. With this in mind, traditions are passed down from generation to generation. This past month we were given the opportunity to showcase a delicacy popular among Asian cultures and eaten during the mid-autumn festival. Mooncakes are given to family and friends at gatherings when celebrating the festival.
Our images depict the mooncakes skin as a thick and tender pastry and enveloped inside is a sweet, dense filling and May contain one or more salted egg yolks in the center symbolic with a full moon.
